Over 600 over 60s were questioned and this unveiled evidence as many as 12 per cent were relying on a state pension alone to pay for the basics such as heating and food, with the over 80s facing a bigger struggle, according to the survey, with 17 per cent admitting they found it hard to pay for life's necessities.

It is these people who, if they owned a home, could benefit from equity release to help boost their income.  For these consumers, and indeed for those who are comfortably off and want to use money tied up in bricks and mortar to live an even fuller life, equity release may well be a feasible option."
