Recent years have seen a shift in the foreign homes sector, with more people looking to use a property for moving abroad or retirement rather than investment, it has been claimed.
According to Barclays Global Retail and Commercial Banking (GRCB), an increasing number of Britons are seeking a change in lifestyle and are achieving this through an overseas residence. The bank revealed that the outlook for the Spanish property market remains particularly "positive" despite the recent slowdown, while advising people to remember that buying a home abroad must be approached as a "medium to long-term investment opportunity".
"Our customers are more of the dream-chasers and the lifestyle buyers rather than the investors," said Laura Vergani, head of media relations at Barclays GRCB. "These are people that wish to own a property and spend time in the country because they like it and because this is something they enjoy and they like the quality of life," she added.
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, 380,000 people emigrated from the UK in 2005, over half of whom were British citizens. Self storage can help to organise rooms at home or abroad
